I began thinking about how corporations spend billions creating characters designed to capture children’s attention, shape their desires, and turn imagination into consumption.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nI don’t blame the children.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nI question a system that teaches children to build relationships with brands before they build relationships with their own histories, cultures, communities, and lands.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nLos Guerreros del Maíz is my response.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nWhat would it look like if our children grew up with characters rooted in memory instead of marketing? In community instead of consumption? In responsibility instead of endless collecting?\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThese little maize warriors carry that question.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nFor me, maize has always represented more than food. It represents our relationship to the earth, our ancestors, and the generations yet to come.
